Do You Hear What I Hear?

There is a song that contains those words in it. "Do you hear what I hear? " Maybe it's from the little drummer boy? It seems though people having a conversation may speak the same language, what each hears may differ from what is being said. Communication is so very tricky. I think it's because we all hear with our judgements,  perceptions and expectations.

It goes back to Maria Nemeth's work. We create a "structure of knowing" about a person. Then we knowingly or unknowingly work to gather evidence that supports that structure. We are slow to let structures collapse. We want to be right, save face, justify our actions.

Here is a way to check if what you are hearing is what is being said. ASK "is this what you are saying?" Check in with the person, don't walk away with your assumptions, hurt or confusion. Doing so will save a lot of pain.
Pic... Keep the love flowing with good, clear and compassionate communication.
