Remembering

Today we enter into the memory of the destruction of houses and homes brought on by the 1st and 2nd world wars. Of course this same destruction continues today in different parts of the world as people insist on violence as a means to an end.

After the 1st world war the sentiment was "never again". But that never didn't last very long. The Truth is that as long as we see ourselves separate from "them" or we paint an entire race or countrymen with the same brush "all germans are our enemy"; things will never change.

We can only kill when we lack empathy for the other person. When we don't see their face. When we look at thousands of people as one big enemy, we aren't seeing people who have families, hopes and dreams just like us. Empathy allows us to see and feel each others experiences. It allows us to see people. It's the only thing that will make "never again" true.
