Sleepless in London

Some nights I just can't get to sleep. That was the case last night. I was up at midnight watching the late shows and Letterman had Don Rickles and Regis Philbin as guests. Rickles has never been one of my favorite comedians. His humor seems kind of mean spirited to me.

Making fun of a person and then saying, "I'm just kidding", seems to me to be insincere. The joker picks something they see as strange or wrong about a person and they are off to the races with the jokes. When this is done in front of others it can be embarrassing. Yes, I've been joked about, as probably everyone reading this has. No one seems to be immune. It's not really fun, and even less so when you see that something "strange" in yourself and now attention is being drawn to it in front of others.

Rickles has made a sizable fortune from his humor so I guess some people like it. I'm just sayin I don't. I don't want to embarrass other people; I don't want to pick on any obvious "sore" spots they may have about themselves. Does a person who is shorter than most others really need to hear jokes about it? Does a man about to get married really to need to hear any more jokes about what he's giving up?

We gain so much when we let others hold on to their dignity.

Gambling On How Long We'll Live

We're in the midst of a discussion about how to receive a small pension. The choices are:
1. the most dollars for as long as Bob lives; but if he dies before 2022, I'd receive the pension only until 2022
2. reduced pension by $30 a month but if Bob dies before 2022 I would continue to receive a pension, at a reduced amount, for the rest of my life. We aren't in agreement about how to set this pension up.

It feels to me that we are gambling on how long Bob will live. It isn't a comfortable discussion right? Yet, it is one we have to have. Then I got to thinking that maybe each day each of us are gambling on how long we'll live. We know that the average person eats pounds (an unhealthy amount) of sugar each year in the face of evidence it is very bad for us. We know that fatty foods clog our arteries and extra fat, especially belly fat, can create life threatening heart disease. We know when we speed we are taking a chance and even when we "J" walk (why is it called that?) we are hoping to scoot traffic and make it to the other side safely. Just getting in our car and driving to work we're gambling we'll get there. And surprisingly this past week, people who decided to shop at the Eaton Centre were taking a gamble.

Maybe the question is, "How long do you want to live, and what are you doing to help that happen?"  There are certainly no guarantees but I think we can reduce the risk and, lesson the gamble.

Witnessing Joy

I have the beautiful opportunity to witness the joy others are experiencing. Unity's prosperity class is in week ten. Each week when we gather, the participants share their prosperity stories. There is always a story or three or four to share each week. It is heart warming to witness the successes.

The successes are showing up because the people are doing the work. We pray together affirming each other's prosperity and the participants are doing the work to change their consciousness. They are affirming I am prosperity 100 times in the morning and 100 in the evening. They are using their power of visualization to picture and live now what they want to create. They are exploring their beliefs and letting go of the ones that don't serve them. They are creating personal vision and mission statements. They are doing the work.

And that's what it takes to make changes in your life. Action needs to be taken. So a good question to ask when you are thinking about what goals you would like to manifest would be, "What am I willing to do to manifest my goals?"

In A Pickle

I've just realized that a prescription of mine will run out while I am away next week. Having called my doctor this morning to get an appointment to renew... I hear his office is closed for holidays! Yikes!

Such situations call for some creativity. Where does that come from? Turn within. Instead of panicking in such situations... we can pray for divine solutions. All is well. When we stop and go within we are ready to receive answers and inspiration. If we believe we are spiritual beings having a human experience then we need to take time to "go home" to connect with spirit each day.

So if you are in a pickle....stop, get still, and go within. Affirm divine order...the presence of God in everything and pray for the eyes to see the good. I totally trust the answers come and we are always being guided to our greater good.

Jubilee Means for Me???

The news is filled with joyous celebrations honouring the Queen's 60 years of service to her kingdom. From the beginning as a young woman she vowed to be of service to her people. She is the most travelled monarch having travelled to 116 (?) countries in 60 years. She has visited Canada 22 times and the queen to 16 countries.

Just think about the dedication it takes to be in service for so many years. What is the consciousness needed to be so dedicated? And as we think about the kingdom that she is queen of can we look at that metaphysically?

When Jesus talked about seek first the kingdom of God he was referring to seeking a (w)holy consciousness. With the right consciousness, a spiritual consciousness, all good things come to us. We have to be thinking right, seeing right, often beyond appearances to knowing there is a greater truth behind a situation. From this perspective we can rule over our own kingdom, our life. We don't panic when something seems to be going wrong, we pray affirming the rightness. We don't blame and shame others, we see God in every face.

This kind of consciousness will serve both us and all those around us helping us reign love over everywhere in our kingdom.

Building Relationships

I was away for the weekend with my Prayer Chaplains facilitating our annual training. Going apart with like minded people is a gift. The energy shared was positive, discussions were stimulating and the food was home made.

As well as being with others and enjoying their company, it was a time to be still and go within. Building our relationship with God within is so important. It's quite magical to get still and quiet. For me I feel warm energy that enfolds me and such peace in my mind and heart. I was very grateful for the program, the company and the place, the Michaelite House. Every year I look forward to the off-site training weekend.

You don't have to go away to experience the quiet. Just take the trip to your heart and discover the wonder that awaits you there.

People

People in our lives teach us so much about ourselves. My talk this Sunday is focused on relationships. Yesterday I was reminded how far I have to go to truly live in peace and love. Oh, I've come a long way in expressing the love of God that I am, and I am sure you have too. And every once in awhile we are shown, we receive the gift of seeing, the work that is still to be done within us so we can walk peacefully on this planet each day.

So I call forth for myself and anyone else who can use this prayer today:
Standing in the Power and Presence of God I call forth my God given capacity of love into all situations and relationships I am involved in today. Thank you God.
